Circuit Preaching Series Resources
If you are looking at this page, it is because you have followed an old link. The website has recently been updated and the preaching resources are now available here. This page is no longer being updated so you may not find all the latest updates here.
The circuit is encouraging all its preachers to take part in a preaching series during the five weeks beginning on 6th February. The series encourages us to reflect on the Bible and the sort of book it is. Based around the hymn "Deep in the shadows of the past" (H&P 477), the five weeks will each take a particular type of literature found in the Bible and will be as follows:
| Feb 6th | Songs/Praise |
- 2 Samuel 6
- Psalm 150
- Colossians 3: 12 - 17
- Luke 2: 22 - 38
|
| Feb 13th | Prophecy |
- Jeremiah 28
- Psalm 46
- 2 Peter 1:16 - 2:3
- Luke 4: 16 - 30

The series will be launched at the circuit service on 30th January when the theme will be "Story".
In the middles of January there was an evening for all local preachers to reflect together on the various themes, each theme being given a short introduction, followed by a chance for discussion. Copies of the introductory material for each topic are presented below. We also hope to include a hymn as soon as Jan has finished writing it.
We hope to add to this as time goes on so if you have any thing to contribute to any of the themes - thoughts on the topic, prayers, hymn suggestions, pictures or other audio-visual resources - please send them to Jonathan so that they can be added to the website. Thank you!

There are a variety of ways Psalm 150 could be presented.
Some background images
“Halle, halle, halle” (CSB 236) is a simple chant which can be used during prayers of praise. There is also an extended version from Haiti which could be used as a background to some suitable images.
The South African Alleluia (CSB 222) is less exuberant and more reflective, and thus a possibility for using during prayers of intercession.

Robert's Notes |
|
A thought from Robert - “The URC publication ‘Being Biblical: A Study Guide’ by John Campbell and Paul Whittle contains twelve studies for house groups: six on using the Bible generally and linked to a book by John Campbell called ‘Being Biblical’ and then a further six Bible studies based on: Leviticus 19; I Kings 22; Matthew 5; Jeremiah 35 and 29; Galatians 1–3; and I Corinthians 12. The latter six have obvious overlaps with some of the readings suggested for the circuit series and some could be adapted for use in worship.” Robert Bates
